Freshway Foods Introduces New Fresh Smoothie Kits

Freshway Foods announced today that the company will introduce new fresh smoothie kits at the upcoming United Fresh show. The new smoothie kits contain fresh-cut produce and feature chef-inspired recipes.

“Today’s consumers are busier than ever, and finding the time to wash, cut and peel fruits and vegetables can be a challenge,” says Kirk Norman, Director of Development for Freshway Foods. “We have taken the guesswork out of making smoothies by providing delicious recipes and the perfect portion of produce,” he adds, “Consumers simply add liquid and ice and blend.”

The new smoothie kits are sold under the company’s Garden Savours retail brand, and contain 12 ounces of individually packed fresh-cut fruits and vegetables in a single serving bag. Recipes printed on the bag provide information about recommended liquids, as well as options add-ins for consumers who want to add protein or other nutrition to their smoothies.

Four varieties of the smoothie kits are offered: Earth Essentials, Earth Tonic, Island Energy and Summer Pearadise. Each variety features antioxidants, phytonutrients, and fiber.

Freshway Foods Introduces New Seasonal Deli Salads

Freshway Foods announced today that the company will introduce new seasonal deli salads at the upcoming IDDBA Dairy-Deli-Bake Conference. The new salads feature ingredients and flavors that consumers prefer, including plant-based protein, spicy flavors, and unique fruits and vegetables.

The company’s Superfood Protein Salad and Tangy Orange Cucumber Quinoa salad both feature plant-based protein. The company’s proprietary Tangy Sriracha Dressing adds spice to sweet and savory ingredients.  Unique ingredients, such as rainbow carrots, turnips,  rutabaga and watermelon radish add interest to the company’s seasonal salads. “Consumers today have more sophisticated palates,” says Kirk Norman, Business Development Director for Freshway Foods. “Even classic pasta salad has been reimagined in this new seasonal salad lineup, with the addition of classic summer barbeque flavors and healthy ingredients like kale,” he adds.

The company’s Grab n Go salad line has also been expanded, with seasonal salads that will add excitement to the retail service case. “We are highlighting colors of the season in our new Grab n Go salads, with our Colors of America salad for Summer and our Colors of Christmas salad for Winter,” Norman adds, “These salads are assembled in store, for fresh convenience and a more upscale experience for consumers.”

Freshway Foods Associates Honored at Appreciation Luncheon

Thousands of dollars in awards, including a 55” HD television, were distributed to Freshway Foods associates at the company’s Associate Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday. The company holds the Appreciation Luncheon monthly to thank its associates for their hard work and dedication.

Freshway associates were recognized for achieving 5, 10 and 15 years of service with the company. In addition, production associate Glenna Murray was honored for 20 years of service with the company.

Company co-owner Phil Gilardi praised Glenna as an outstanding representative for Freshway. “Every time I host a customer tour, I make a point of stopping by her area,” Gilardi said. “She is always smiling and always positive, and she lives our company values every day.”

The company awarded gift cards and a 55” HD television to associates who qualified for the company’s quarterly incentive program drawing. Freshway Foods Hosts Tri-County Food Manufacturers’ Council

Freshway Foods recently hosted a meeting of the Tri-County Food Manufacturers’ Council at the company’s facility at 601 N. Stolle Avenue in Sidney. Representatives from ConAgra Foods, Agrana Fruit US, Mama Rosa’s Pizza, Dannon, Aunt Millies Bakeries and the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce were present.

“The Tri-County Food Manufacturer’s Council serves an important role for area food manufacturers,” says Devon Beer, President and COO of Freshway Foods. “The opportunity to get together as a group and share best practices helps us all to be more successful,” Beer adds.

The meeting included a tour of Freshway’s facility, a discussion period, and an opportunity to taste several of Freshway’s new salads.

Freshway Foods Launches New Website

Freshway Foods announced today the launch of the company’s redesigned website. The new website features more in-depth information about the company’s products and services, as well as useful reference information about fresh produce. The URL of the site – www.freshwayfoods.com – has not changed.

“The new website better represents the full line of products and services we offer to foodservice and retail operators, from menu ideation through delivery of the product to our customers’ facilities,” says Devon Beer, President and COO of Freshway Foods. “The site better reflects our innovative approach to solving the challenges our customers face on a daily basis,” Beer adds.

Freshway has built informational features into the site, and encourages visitors to return often for new information. The company also launched a new blog, accessible through the website or direct at www.freshwayblog.com, which will feature industry trends, innovative applications for fresh produce, and other news of interest to customers. The site also features the company’s redesigned Market Report, which provides weekly updates on top commodities. In addition, the new site offers easier navigation, enhanced communication features, and other improvements.

Tony Arnold Named to Dayton Business Journal Forty Under 40 List

SIDNEY, OHIO — March 19, 2015 — Freshway Foods announced today that Tony Arnold, the company’s Director of Human Resources, has been named to the Dayton Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 list. The list honors the brightest young professionals in the region, and honorees were chosen from nearly 270 nominations.

“Anyone who has worked with Tony knows how deserving he is of this award,” said Devon Beer, President and COO of Freshway Foods. “Tony is the consummate team player and a pleasure to be around,” he added. “The Freshway team could not be more proud of him. The sky is the limit regarding his future.”

Arnold was nominated for the list by Sharon Maurice, Director of the Workforce Partnership of Shelby County, Ohio. “When I saw the criteria for the list, Tony was the first person to come to mind,” said Maurice. “Tony is always the first person to volunteer, and he has been instrumental in getting our programs up and running,” she added. “He’s stellar.”

Arnold volunteers regularly with the Workforce Partnership, whose mission is to align workforce and education systems to respond to the skills needs of business and industry in Shelby County. Arnold helped develop the curriculum for the Food Science program at Sidney High School in Sidney, Ohio. He has spoken to students at local high schools about careers in the food industry. He was also active in the project to build the Workforce Partnership Classroom at Sidney High School and worked with Wright State University to develop the school’s Certificate in Food Systems Management, an undergraduate program offered through the university’s Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio.

Arnold serves as chairman of the Write State University Food Science Advisory Committee and as member of the Sidney/Shelby County YMCA and Sidney High School Food Science Advisory Boards. He is a frequent guest speaker at local universities.

Arnold joined Freshway Foods in 2010. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from Wright State University. A lifelong resident of Shelby County, Arnold and his family currently reside in Sidney, Ohio.

Freshway Foods Drivers Inducted Into Million Mile Club

SIDNEY, OHIO — October 24, 2014 — Freshway Foods announced today that three of the company’s drivers have been inducted into the company’s prestigious Million Mile Club, which recognizes drivers who have achieved one million safe driving miles with the company.

Freshway drivers John Lawrence, Mike Bradley and Herb Donahue were honored at a celebration event for achieving one million safe miles, and each received a custom leather bomber jacket, a die cast model of a Freshway truck, a gift card and an engraved plaque. “Our drivers are the critical link to providing exceptional service for our customers, and getting our product delivered safely is our top priority,” stated Devon Beer, President of Freshway Foods. “We are extremely proud of John, Mike and Herb for reaching one million accident-free miles. The dedication and the careful approach applied to their jobs provides a fine example for the rest of our drivers,” Beer stated. “We look forward to many more drivers reaching the same milestone.”

Devon Beer Named President and Chief Operating Officer of Freshway Foods

SIDNEY, OHIO — September 12, 2014 — Freshway Foods announced today that Devon Beer has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Freshway Foods. In his new role, Beer will lead all of the day to day activities of both Freshway Foods and Freshway Logistics. The company’s executive team will report directly to Beer, and he will lead execution of the company’s strategic plans, including revenue growth and expense control initiatives.

Beer joined Freshway Foods in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer. “Devon has brought a set of standards, guiding principles, and disciplines to Freshway that have been a significant part of our growth and success during these past 14 years,” said company owner Frank Gilardi. “During his time at Freshway, Devon has filled a role well beyond that of his official duties. I have confidence in his abilities and his commitment to serve our values, mission and vision as we move forward.”

SIDNEY, OHIO — May 8, 2013 — Freshway Foods announced today that the company will introduce a line of new summer salads at the upcoming IDDBA Dairy-Deli-Bake Conference. The new summer salads contain a broad variety of superfoods, including kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, beets and mangos.

Samples of the company’s Super Veggie Detox and 5-A-Day Plus Salads will be offered at the show. “Today’s consumers are seeking out healthy options for their families, and they would like to purchase healthy salads from their local deli department or salad bar.
